Save resin by hollowing your models
Hollowing 2D
Hollowing 2D doesn't change your 3D model. Instead, Lychee Slicer leaves the inside of each slice uncured. Open it in Prepare → Hollow → Hollowing 2D and turn it on. It applies to every model in the scene. To turn it off for one model, use the hollowing icon in the Objects list.
- Thickness: wall thickness, from 0.5 to 10 mm.
- Dimming: fades pixels at the edge of the cured area in a checkerboard pattern.
- Infill: adds an internal lattice for strength. Set the density, the pattern size (0.8 to 3 mm), the type (Lattice or Double Lattice) and an optional grey value for a softer cure.
Use the layer slider to check the result. Hollowing 2D can't be exported as a 3D file.
Hollowing 3D
Hollowing 3D creates an internal cavity inside the model. Select the model, open Prepare → Hollow → Hollowing 3D, set the Thickness (0.5 to 10 mm) and Quality (1 to 4; higher is more accurate but needs more resources), then click Add/Update. The hollowing is finalized when you slice or export. Hollowing 3D replaces Hollowing 2D on that model.
For automatic detection of resin traps and suction cups, see Voxel Hollowing 3D.
Blockers
Blockers stop Lychee Slicer from hollowing the area they cover, so that area prints solid. In an exported hollowed model, the cavity stops at the blocker. Blockers can't fill an area that's already hollow or a suction cup created by the model's shape.
Don't forget
Add drain holes and check for suction cups after hollowing.
