Make Lychee Slicer use the right graphics card and run smoothly

Lychee Slicer relies heavily on your graphics card. If it's slow, laggy, freezes or crashes, the graphics settings are the first thing to check.

Where to find them

Go to File → Preferences → Global Settings and scroll down to the Performance section. Settings marked with an asterisk (*) need a restart of Lychee Slicer to take effect.

Check which graphics card is used

The Active GPU line shows which graphics card Lychee Slicer is using. If your computer has a dedicated card (for example NVIDIA or AMD) and this shows your integrated graphics instead (often Intel or AMD Radeon Graphics), make sure Eco mode is off and the performance profile is set to High, then restart.

The settings

  • Performance profile: High (best quality) gives the best display quality and uses your graphics card fully. Medium (balanced) lightens the load and can help if the 3D view is laggy. Low (battery saver) is for laptops running on battery.
  • V-Sync mode: Hardware (driver-synced) is the default. If Lychee Slicer is laggy, freezes or crashes when slicing, try Software (frame-rate limiter). Unlimited (no sync) removes any frame-rate limit.
  • Eco mode (use iGPU if exist): uses your integrated graphics instead of your dedicated card, to save battery. Keep it off for best performance.
  • Fail-safe rendering: a more compatible rendering mode. Only turn it on if the 3D view doesn't display correctly and the other steps haven't helped.
  • Use main loop to render the UI: an advanced option. Leave it off unless our support team asks you to try it.

If Lychee Slicer is slow or freezes, try in this order

  1. Check that Active GPU shows your dedicated graphics card and that Eco mode is off.
  2. Set V-Sync mode to Software, then restart Lychee Slicer.
  3. If it's still slow, set Performance profile to Medium, then restart.
  4. Update your graphics card drivers from the NVIDIA, AMD or Intel website.

Using an older version of Lychee Slicer?

Older versions have a single Force High GPU Mode option in the same place (File → Preferences → Global Settings). Turn it on and restart Lychee Slicer.
