Set up a filament printer that isn't in the list, or one you've modified or built yourself

Lychee Slicer includes profiles for a wide range of filament printers, from the most common consumer models to professional and open-source machines. If yours isn't listed, or you've customized or built your own, you can create a custom printer profile.

1. Create the printer

  • In the toolbar, open the 3D Printer menu and click Add.
  • Choose the Filament section.
  • Select Create a custom 3D printer instead of picking a model from the list.

2. Fill in the general settings

  • Name: give your printer a name you'll recognize. Handy if you own several identical machines.
  • Volume: enter the printable distance on the X, Y and Z axes. On a custom printer, every axis can be edited.
  • Filament diameter: most printers use 1.75 mm. Some professional machines use 2.85 mm or 3 mm.
  • Nozzle diameter: 0.4 mm is the standard. If you use a different nozzle, enter its size and Lychee Slicer adjusts the other parameters to match.
  • Extruder Select G-code: leave it on T0 unless your printer has several printheads or a multi-material unit.

3. Set up the G-code

Each printer comes with a basic start G-code that heats the bed and nozzle, homes the printer and draws a purge line. Adapt it to your machine using the checkboxes:

  • Hotbed: tick it if your printer has a heated bed.
  • Bed leveling: runs your automatic bed leveling probe before printing. To use the mesh already saved in your printer instead, add M420 S1 right after G28.
  • Set Max Acceleration and Set Jerk: optional, to apply your own motion values before the print starts.

For Klipper printers, you can replace the start G-code with your START_PRINT macro, for example: START_PRINT BED_TEMP={bed_temp} EXTRUDER_TEMP={temp}. Add M82 afterwards if your macro doesn't include it, and put your PRINT_END macro in the End G-code.

4. Connect your printer (optional)

OctoPrint and Klipper machines can be connected over your network so you can send and start prints directly from Lychee Slicer. OctoPrint printers are detected automatically. For Klipper, enter the printer's IP address in the Find by IP field.

Share or back up your profile

Use Export in the 3D Printer menu to save your printer profile as a .lyp file, with your filament profiles if you want them. Use Import to load a .lyp file on another computer or share it with a friend.
